This is The Place Heritage Park

Our family has never been to This is The Place Heritage Park before but we decided to stop in after the Hogle Zoo (well KaDee said that she went in elementary, but that was YEARS ago). =o]
We really enjoyed all the festivities they had for Pioneer Day, and all of the interactive tours we went on.
We learned a lot about Brigham Young and the Navajo Indians and how the built their hogans (houses) and the history behind them.

They shot off a "candy" cannon & it rained salt water taffy!

We learned about the Navajo hogans & why they are built the way they are in the form of a circle (they represent a woman's reproductive cycle, one way in, one way out just like a woman giving birth) he also said that you always leave head first out the door (just how a baby leaves the womans womb)  weird but it was interesting.

He said the hole in the ceiling represented the belly button of a woman, and the reason they have 9 sides to the hogan was because of the 9 mths. a woman carried a child.

Matt is standing next to the sweat house it is only for the men, this is where the men learn to become men & learn their Indian chants/songs.
 The hogan is the woman's & a man is not allowed inside (he just builds it for the woman).

an apple pie made from Brigham's apple's (they said you would only need 2 apples per pie because they were SO big)!!

Called a doughnut stove where the smoke goes around 3 times before it goes out the pipe.

An original piano that made it across the plains, it still plays and is complete with ivory keys.

Notice the 'short' furniture, the average height for a women was 4'11" & men 5'7"

I've never seen a "hairy" cow before

So these ladies impressed me because I'm also making a quilt by hand like they are except I kinda gave up on mine.
I got the top done but I haven't started putting it together yet, its such a hard and tedious work to hand stitch a whole quilt (someday I'll finish...SOMEDAY).
